What We Are
It was the idea of Sri Niranjan Mohanty,the founder secretary of SMSS,that a proper shelter should be built for the care and upbringing of the deprived children of Kandhamal inhabited by tribes.
Therefore his initial tireless efforts were concentrated
on building up an orphanage for these children. In the vicinity of the orphanage are supporting institutions like shelter home for destitute women,school for girls,tailoring training center and creche for pre-school children.
SMSS came into existence in 1980.With experience of over 27 years scince 1980,in organizing programmes for child welfare,women's development,geriatric care, provision for medical care and health education.SMSS proposes to adopt the necessary paradigm shift to respond to emerging needs. Where We Work SMSS activities are spread over three districts : Kandhamal, Ganjam, Khurda. The initial activities were in the tribal dominated kandhamal district where an orphanage was established for taking care of destitute and deprived children. Legal Status & governence
SMSS is a non-profit,non-political and secular voluntary organisation registered under the SocitiiesRegistration Act XXI of 1860 and Foriegn
Contribution and Regulation Act (FCRA).It is also tax-exempted under 80G of IT Act.
SMSS adoption programme is recognised by CARA(Central Adoption Resource Authority)of Ministry of Woman and Child Development,Govt.of India and as well as the Department of Women & Child Devolopoement of dsGovt.of Orissa.
The SMSS is also recognised by CARA,Govt of India as a placement agency to carry on inter-country adoption for rehabilitation
of abandoned children to the families abroad.
The policy making body of SMSS is the Governing Board and all exucutive actions are in pursuance of the governing documentsas well as in compliance of the resolutions passed by the Governing Bo |
